The latest version of SquareDesk has lots of good stuff to make managing your music and sequences easier! In a single application, SquareDesk gives you:
- a music player
- a built-in cuesheet editor
- a graphical checker mover (SD)
- a call tracker, and
- a place to keep your reference material.
And, it’s free (as in beer)! SquareDesk on an Apple Silicon (M1/2/3/4) MacBook Air is what I use every week for calling. I hope you might find it useful too!
Downloading
You can download SquareDesk here (you’ll also find some Installation movies there to demonstrate). Be sure to read the “HOW_TO_INSTALL_V1.0.29.TXT” for installation instructions and help getting started. And “RELEASE NOTES_V1.0.29.txt” contains a list of what changes have been made recently.
Installation Part 1 (movie: Installation_Part_1.mp4)
- Download the DMG file, and double click it to open the DMG window.
- Drag copy the SquareDesk_1.0.29.app to the Applications folder in the DMG window.
Installation Part 2 (movie: Installation_Part_2.mp4)
- Tell MacOS that it’s OK to run SquareDesk, following the instructions in the HOW_TO_INSTALL_V1.0.29.txt file. (It’s copying a line of text into a Terminal.app window, so this will only take a minute.)
Using SquareDesk
When installation is done, go to Applications, and double-click SquareDesk_1.0.29. Check out the Wiki (with screenshots!) for the Quick Reference Manual to get started!
Open Source
The term “Open Source” means that all of the source code needed to build SquareDesk is available on Github. Note that SquareDesk is free to use forever, AND you are free to make changes to it (as long as you make those changes available to the community). I only ask that you kindly let me know about any bugs you find, and any suggestions you have for improvements either by opening a Github Issue here , or by sending me email: mpogue at zenstar studio dot com)!
Thanks!
SquareDesk has many authors and contributors, who have given their time and their source code to the community. My hope is that SquareDesk will continue to be improved by the community for a long, long time!
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does SquareDesk run on Intel X86 Macs, Windows machines, or Linux machines?
No, most callers with Windows laptops are using SquareView, which works great on those! Most Mac users are now on Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4)-based laptops, but if somebody wants to take the source code and make it work on older X86 Macs, that would be great, and I’m happy to provide advice and encouragement!
